Week 16


Students will learn about Adolescent Health Issues, good decision making and how these issues are presented in the media.

The WESD standards covering these issues are available here:

Monday: students will check on their understanding of exactly what issues are supposed to be important. They will perform a pediatrician designed research questionnaire and begin to look at how teen issues are dealt with in the media. They will choose 2 issues from among discussed topics. They will produce a detailed project on these by December 12th.
Tuesdayand Wednesday: We will examine some examples of how the media approach these topics and present ideas to teens in order to influence them.
Thursday and Friday: Students will research their chosen topics in the library

Project presentations will run from December 12th till December 15th.

Week 15


This week we will begin to cover some issues about Adolescent Lifestyle Choices.
This strand of the WESD Standards looks at some of the challenges that adolescents face in terms of making productive and positive life choices and decisions about behaviors that can have serious health consequences

Monday: First Aid and Life Saving Strategies
Tuesday: Alcohol and Teens. A mock trial for a teen offender and real life teens whose alcohol use had serious effects.
Wednesday: Students will be given a dietary diary to complete over the holiday. Note everything you eat and drink. Write down the dietary information from the packaging, or if home made find the information online. We will analyze the data on return from break.
There is a genetics quiz today.

Sunday, November 13th

Week 14


This week we will be studying more about genetics.
On Monday and Tuesday we will look at Mendelian Heredity and the use of punnet squares.
On Wednesday and Thursday we will study the genetics of blood typing, the importance of blood types and a lab that models the use of blood in forensics.
Friday we will start to look at the human organism beginning with anatomy and a consideration of health and disease.
